Qualitative Researcher (Tokyo, Japan)

Qualitative Researcher

Qualitative Researchers (QRs) work with ZS client teams to support the delivery of qualitative market research across multiple consulting team engagements.  As part of ZS' Qualitative Expertise Center, the Qualitative Researcher is expected to develop a flexible and process oriented approach to uncover key insights during qualitative interviews with a variety of respondent types.


  • Understand key client business questions and how they will be addressed through qualitative MR;
  • Support development of qualitative research discussion guides and stimuli
  • Moderate qualitative market research (IDIs, TDIs and focus groups)
  • Employ basic market research techniques to build rapport with respondents, facilitate engaging conversions and uncover insights;
  • Leverage technology during the interview process (scheduling, recording, note taking, sharing stimuli);
  • Support development of deliverables including interview summaries and presentations as an outcome of interviews conducted;
  • Provide support on project fielding set-up, timeline planning, recruitment vendor management and scheduling
  • Collaborate with project teams as a team member as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree with Social Sciences, Life Science, or Marketing focus (Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Biology, etc.);
  • 2-4+ years of relevant work experience (preferably in pharmaceutical/life science industries) with a fundamental knowledge of qualitative market research techniques;
  • Computer fluency with MSOffice (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Outlook;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Analytic problem solving skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Japanese and English
  • Self-motivation;
  • Organization & planning skills;
  • Strong work ethic;
  • Personal initiative.

ZS is a global consulting firm; fluency in English and the local office language is required.
