User Experience Design Lead (Princeton, NJ)

Within ZS' Business Technology group, the User Experience Expertise Center (UXEC) works with clients to design effective technology solutions that support & enhance critical business processes and manage the implementation of those solutions. The User Experience (UX) team, specifically, spearheads a variety of user experience engagements from large scale business transformation and customer experience initiatives to interactive dashboards, web portals, and applications for mobile and desktop.

UX Design Lead – Specialist

ZS Associates, a global leader in sales and marketing effectiveness, seeks a User Experience Design Lead to join our Princeton office. As a User Experience Design Specialist, you will drive initiatives that make ZS solutions useful, usable and desirable for people, while also meeting the business needs of our clients. We seek someone who is passionate about working with user experience researchers to apply user-centered research and design methods to solve complex business problems and deliver a best-in-class user experience.

This role works across various lifecycle stages, from initial definition to continuous enhancement, as we integrate user-centered design into the work of multi-disciplinary teams and broad range of client engagements. You will provide expertise and direction in guiding UX design strategy, as well as provide hands-on support for client and internal projects.

We expect depth of experience in a wide range of UX design methods and approaches. As a senior member of the team, you will:

Foster a user-centered, collaborative design process
• Partner and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including other members of the UX team, throughout all stages of the user-centered design process
• Define, socialize and implement best practices for user experience design, leveraging industry standards
• Apply strategic thinking and demonstrate awareness of business goals while striving for a highly usable and engaging end-to-end user experience
• Manage project outcomes at all levels, from client / stakeholder expectations, to timeline and financials 

Lead best-in-class UX design
• Support UX strategic goals by creating designs that support user needs, meet business goals and are technically feasible
• Demonstrate an ability to clearly understand an end user’s perspective from user research findings and tie the findings to business goals to provide design recommendations accordingly

• Demonstrate a high degree of aptitude to learn and understand our clients’ business such that you can speak to it when needed
• Create intuitive navigation, user interfaces, prototypes, icons and information graphics that demonstrate a mastery of business goals to and end user research insights; deliver other design artifacts as needed

• Demonstrate the ability to articulate your design decisions with reasoning grounded in human-computer interaction best practices, user research and an understanding of the technology
• Ensure all UI behaviors are consistent with usability standards, best practices, and strategy
• Strive for optimal usability and user engagement for the end-to-end experience by leveraging industry standards while understanding technology limitations
• Establish strong relationships with project teams and clients to generate business
• Develop an appropriate understanding of business context and client goals

• Teach and mentor junior team members about UX research and design best practices and industry standards

Business Knowledge and Acumen:

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and quickly learn complex business processes and how they manifest in enterprise software to support end-users;
  • A strongly-developed business acumen and the ability to deeply and quickly understand varying business needs holistically;
  • The ability to delegate and manage project work across the team, as appropriate.
  • A strong understanding of enterprise software is required, including portals, content management systems, collaboration technologies, and Business Intelligence (BI) systems.
  • A strong understanding of the industry best practices around how to envision and deliver end to end complex custom applications, and where UX fits into the process.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical teams to produce feasible solutions in support of Sales, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, and Analytics teams.  
  • Previous experience working in pharmaceutical industry and knowledge of healthcare is preferred.

Client Management and Communication:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to clearly articulate design decisions with stakeholders and development teams, and keep UX and Project Team leads up-to-date;
  • Excellent collaboration skills with all levels of clients and ZS project team members, and experience leading design discussions and obtaining consensus on project requirements that produce deliverables that adhere to usability best practices and fulfill business needs;


ZS welcomes candidates who hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a visual design field, including graphic design, interaction design, illustration, industrial design or comparable design discipline, and have a foundational understanding of usability design best practices; additional degrees or certifications in human-computer interaction, information science, Human Factors (CUA™) or related field, or equivalent work experience is preferred.

We are looking for individuals with 8-10 years of experience in the field of User Experience, with a focus on leading the design and delivery of business or enterprise applications that are complex, high-volume, and high profile, including portals, business applications, mobile apps, interactive dashboards, data visualization and information design.

Expertise in collaborative prototyping and design tools like Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator), etc.

  • Candidates should have the ability to travel to client locations (25%) to work with teams and provide in-person expertise.
