Decision Analytics Consultant/ Bioinformatics (Los Angeles, CA)

This role will be aligned with ZS R&D Excellence Practice Area across multiple clients.

Bioinformatics Decision Analytics Consultant

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with clients and ZS teams to understand and frame scientific questions and required insights and translate into experimental design for bioinformatics studies and analyses;
  • Design and code analytical pipelines for various “omics” studies and experiments;
  • Apply machine learning and advanced data science methods and approaches to scientific analyses and bioinformatics projects;
  • Establish and maintain “omics” libraries and advise clients and ZS teams on library governance;
  • Evaluate and assess strengths and weaknesses of “omics” and translational data sources via interrogation, and through potential data partners for advancing the data strategy for a given experiment, or for general use by a research or therapeutic area team;
  • Assist in building tools and platforms that become a source of sustained competitive advantage for ZS in conducting scientific consulting and research studies for our clients;
  • Provide subject matter expertise to teams building bioinformatics platforms and research data lakes;
  • Evaluate and recommend bioinformatics tools and platforms for client projects;
  • Publish research papers and present at scientific conferences based on work performed;
  • Maintain a strong insight into the capabilities of potential external partners and competitors in bioinformatics, by assessing their informatics and data capabilities;
  • Synthesize and communicate results to clients and ZS teams through oral and written presentations;
  • Provide client and ZS teams project status updates;
  • Create project deliverables and implement solutions;
  • Guide and mentor Associates on teams.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master’s degree in bioinformatics, computational genomics, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, systems biology, immunology, mathematics, physics or related discipline, and strong academic performance with analytic and quantitative coursework is required;
  • In lieu of a PhD, 3-5 years of relevant post-collegiate work experience in bioinformatics, computational genomics or a related field;
  • Expertise in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics databases and translational data domains;
  • Expertise in research and translational data standards, medical terminologies and controlled vocabularies (e.g. ICD, NDC, SNOMED, MedDRA, LOINC, CPT) used in healthcare data and ontologies;
  • Expertise in data science methods and approaches within bioinformatics applications;
  • Experience in advanced visualization and visual analytics of routinely performed bioinformatics analyses;
  • Proficiency in Python, R and other coding languages used in bioinformatics;
  • Understanding of tools and platforms needed to analyze “omics” and translational data;
  • Experience working with Cloud computing platforms like AWS
  • Experience maintaining and publishing RShiny applications on RConnect
  • Experience working with code versioning tools like Github
