Experience Design Manager (New York, NY)

ZS's Business Consulting group partners with clients to design and deliver solutions to help them tackle a broad range of business challenges. Our teams work on multiple projects simultaneously, leveraging advanced data analytics and problem-solving techniques. ZS seeks an Experience Design Manager to join our New York, NY office. In this role, you will lead a combined client/ZS team in conceiving and designing engaging experiences for customers and the employees responsible for delivering these experiences. Starting with the customer need and strategic initiative, you’ll use human-centered design practices to uncover opportunities to unlock and deliver new value to clients and their customers.   • Motivate, coach and serve as an active leader and role model for project team members
  • Provide thought leadership and innovation within projects and across practice areas
  • Develop firm capabilities and offerings (new products, recruiting, training, internal initiatives)
  • Establish or maintain ongoing client relationships with key decision makers to drive new business development
  • Partner with clients to design and implement “best-in-class” products, services and brand experiences that solve customer problems, increase brand value and inspire employees
  • Create conceptual models, sketches, and/or detailed schematics through cycles of rapid iteration to prototype, test and improve experiences before scaling them more broadly
  • Ensure insights, concepts, design principles and experience details carry through execution
  • Design and deliver human-centered design/co-creation sessions as needed to support collaboration and integrate key skills, tools and mindsets into everyday work with clients and colleagues
  • Ensure work product quality and relevance to client decisions


  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s or PhD preferred, MBA a plus) in applied design, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, psychology, anthropology, behavioral science, industrial engineering, architecture or a related discipline focused in social science and design communication, with a demonstrated record of academic success and qualitative work
  • At least 8+ years of experience applying human-centered design methods to reach successful business outcomes, Life Sciences industry or professional services experience preferred
  • Aptitude for, and enjoyment of, leading and managing teams
  • Strong collaboration skills that enable personal impact across management levels
  • Experience in study design using human-centered design research methods such as ethnography, contextual inquiry, interviews and prototype testing
  • Proven capability to balance ideation, conceptual thinking and tactical execution
  • A robust and diverse portfolio featuring human-centered experience design work that led to positive business outcomes
  • Developed business acumen with demonstrated experience in Healthcare and program management skills, including scope definition, deadlines, stakeholder management and corporate accountability;
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work effectively on several projects simultaneously in a matrixed and fast paced environment
  • Ability to travel to client locations (~25%) to provide in-person expertise

ZS is a global consulting firm; fluency in English is required, additional fluency in at least one European or Asian language is desirable.
