Senior Content Associate (Evanston, IL)

The Marketing and Communications team helps build the ZS brand, champion thought leadership, support business development and engage our past, present and future workforce.


We seek a Senior Content Associate to join our Marketing & Communications team in our Evanston, IL office. Reporting to the Head of Content Strategy and Operations, the Senior Content Associate works with ZS’s marketers and subject matter experts to develop thought leadership and promotional content including articles, Q&As, white papers, case studies, research reports, videos, infographics, web content, brochures, social media posts and more. The Senior Content Associate is responsible for planning, project managing and producing multiple content pieces in holistic, connected campaigns to enhance ZS’s voice in the marketplace.

The Senior Content Associate will serve both as a writer who will develop content from scratch and as an editor to partner with SMEs on refining their external bylines, POVs and articles on the insights section of ZS.com. They will be charged with staying up to date on the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, along with other key industries ZS serves. That marketplace knowledge will regularly inform the development of ZS’s insights and perspectives, helping produce relevant and timely thought leadership and promotional content that resonates with ZS’s target audiences, meets their needs at each stage in the buyer’s journey and aligns with ZS’s marketing plans and priorities. 

The Senior Content Associate will partner closely with their marketer colleagues to develop an effective content strategy to support ZS marketing objectives. They will plan how to cover prioritized themes; identify how to differentiate content projects from similar work already in the marketplace; determine the best asset type to suit the target audience’s needs and consumption behaviors; and make sure all content assets align with the messaging and business strategy.  

Beyond the editorial team, the SMEs and the marketers, the Senior Content Associate also collaborates with ZS’s creative services team and digital teams to help produce these projects and monitor their performance. 


  • Write, ghostwrite and edit short- and long-form content assets, including articles, Q&As, case studies, white papers, presentation decks, video scripts, ads, web copy, brochures and social media messaging. 
  • Contribute content to targeted campaigns that ZS runs across channels to reach key audiences and reinforce the ZS point of view on important topics.
  • Interview ZS SMEs regularly to aggregate their insights and distill their research findings in engaging content pieces. Serve as the interpreter, ensuring that all ideas are clear, compelling and relevant when viewed through the eyes of ZS clients and other external audiences.
  • Edit thought leadership content developed by various ZS teams, working with authors to fine-tune the content’s angle, structure, brand voice and tone, keeping it in line with AP style, in-house ZS style and our content strategy goals.
  • Understand positioning information including audience and persona definitions, the buyer’s journey, message maps, strategic keyword lists and more to deliver content projects that align with the marketing strategy and with the needs of our target audiences, especially those in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.
  • Work within ZS’s content collaboration and production management platform to deliver high-quality content on schedule.
  • Contribute to the ZS content strategy, helping balance quantity with quality. Assess gaps in the content portfolio and work with each marketing partner to determine how best to fill them.
  • Track the performance of the content assets associated with these projects in collaboration with colleagues in operations and digital roles, using data to not only optimize individual assets but to continuously improve the team’s work.
  • Follow industry news, trends and timely topics that are relevant to ZS audiences and share that information with colleagues to strengthen the development of ZS content. 


  • B.A./B.S. degree required; advanced degree welcome
  • 3–5 years of relevant work experience in a B2B environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or familiarity with writing for the pharma and healthcare industries is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with sales and marketing topics preferred
  • Keen understanding of the latest trends in content strategy and operations
  • Expert knowledge of AP style and expert-level attention to detail
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and how to apply them to digital content
  • Experience conducting compelling interviews with influential people and synthesizing the information into meaningful content assets
  • Experience writing for a mix of content assets, including video, infographics, web content, paid and organic social media, and identifying the best asset type to suit the message, project objective and target audience
  • Experience working with content management systems and content collaboration platforms 
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills 
  • Proven ability to synthesize large amounts of research and information into succinct summaries 
  • Proven ability to think creatively in response to diverse demands and projects 
  • Proven ability to prioritize, multitask, exhibit flexibility and remain responsive as demands change

  • An appetite for using data to continuously improve content
  • Ability to flex morning schedule, if needed, to collaborate with team members in India
  • Minimal travel required (~5%)


ZS is a global consulting firm; fluency in English is required, additional fluency in at least one European or Asian language is desirable.
