Human Resources Specialist - Global Mobility (Evanston, IL)

HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST/MOBILITY

We seek a Human Resources Specialist (Global Mobility) in our Evanston, IL headquarters office. The HR Specialist will be responsible for managing the global mobility/immigration initiatives for our international workforce, including employment-based work authorization and permanent residence cases and corporate relocation. This position reports to a senior human resources leader, supervises one to two team members and works in coordination with a small global team
Responsibilities:

  • Manages and coordinates the global mobility program through the following:
    • Provides global mobility subject matter expertise and strategic advisory support to business line managers during assignment planning process, advising on appropriate visa, immigration and HR-related support for business travel and international assignments
    • Acts as a resource to internal travel coordinators to develop a high level of customer service and a support model for business travelers, international assignees inbound or outbound to their offices
    • Leads the development and continuous improvement of the Global Mobility program by working together with internal stakeholders to develop, govern and maintain Global Mobility policies terms and conditions
    • Proactively works with business stakeholders and local HR business partners to provide guidance in relation to international assignments and permanent transfers
    • Assists with expatriate assignments and related HR operations support as needed
  • Serves as process lead for the Immigration team and outside immigration counsel
    • Manages global and US visa processing and compliance through in-house or outsourced options
    • Stays current on US and Canadian work authorization, Permanent Residency and Non-Immigrant Visa trends and information
    • Authorizes employment related documents and required letters for sponsored associates traveling internationally, as requested
    • Creates and oversees processes and procedures in order to efficiently coordinate documentation required for visa processing on all Immigrant and non-Immigrant applications with candidates, consultants and outside counsel. Ensures processes, procedures, and tracking are in place so that all immigration application filings related to employment-based Non-Immigrant and Immigrant petitions are completed accurately and in a timely manner
    • Manages communication channels to ensure we provide a high level of service and consultation to all immigration inquiries regarding status updates to employees
    • Has responsibility over reviewing persuasive support letters, forms, and responses to requests for evidence to submit to USCIS
  • Serves as advisory partner to: 
    • Provide general information, education, and guidance to consultants and candidates regarding requirements for entry to US that are in line with immigration regulations 
    • Ensure effective on-boarding of sponsored new hires, assignment changes and internal international transfers
  • Acts as a liaison between HR and the Payroll & Finance departments through management of various inputs, as well as maintenance of shared data and processes
  • Completes other projects and initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, candidates with a BS or MS in HR or related are preferred
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience, preferably in human resources or an immigration-related role involving employment-based non-immigrant and permanent residence processes
  • Strong attention to detail and good time management skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to work and communicate with multiple levels of the organization 
  • Eagerness to contribute in a team-oriented culture, but with a large degree of autonomy
  • Strong work ethic and initiative
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment
  • Experience working in a role that requires a high degree of confidentiality and/or dealing with sensitive information.
  • Experience working in a multi-national professional services environment preferred 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
