The Marketing and Communications team helps build the ZS brand, champion thought leadership, support business development and engage our past, present and future workforce.


We seek a Head of Content to join our Marketing & Communications Team. Reporting to the Head of Integrated Marketing, this role will lead a team of highly skilled writers, editors and content strategists, helping them translate complex concepts into compelling, well-differentiated and data-driven content. He or she will work collaboratively with the portfolio and account-based marketing teams to build a content strategy that aligns to overall marketing campaign objectives, while partnering with the creative services, digital and events teams to activate the content vision. He or she will evangelize content strategy best practices and facilitate content alignment and efficiency through a centralized, consolidated and coordinated methodology for content lifecycle management—monitoring, measuring and improving the health of the entire content ecosystem.

The ideal candidate is creative yet results-oriented, with an operational mindset—demonstrating years of proven leadership in managing high-performing content teams in a collaborative, corporate environment. This candidate should exude impeccable attention to detail, have a unique ability to continuously prioritize work, all while priding themselves on building data-driven content strategies, and consistently exceeding stakeholder expectations. 

The head of content is a critical role that supports content success across industries, practice areas and campaigns. 


  • Collaborate closely with the portfolio marketing team to develop a content strategy aligned to the buyers’ journey and built on industry trends, custom research, provocative POVs, competitive insight and content performance best practices. 
  • Manage and motivate a content team to create compelling, unique content aligned with corporate campaign strategy and packaged using content types that suit the target audience’s content consumption behaviors and preferences.
  • Improve operational performance across the team, ensuring the content production process is highly efficient and quality of work exceeds industry standards
  • Establish and develop a research strategy, bringing together research ideas across the firm while collaborating with outside vendors, including academic institutions, on pillar research projects.
  • Evangelize and educate relevant teams on content strategy best practices. Ensure that the ZS voice, tone, style and brand positioning are reflected appropriately in all content projects.
  • Leverage data from the analytics team to generate insights on content performance and future content opportunities. Proactively share insights across the editorial team to guide content development choices and leverage content performance insights to advise the portfolio marketing team on future content strategy. 
  • Manage a centralized editorial calendar, driving content prioritization decisions across the content and portfolio marketing teams. Manage team-wide content volume and determine how to connect the dots between similar projects to enable the team to do fewer things better—resulting in more impactful content assets that drive more firm value.
  • Perform audits and gap analyses on how the content inventory maps to internal and external audiences and buyer’s journey stages, as well as key strategic themes and marketing/business priorities. 
  • Manage the content budget with precision, allocating spend toward research, content audits, technology and freelance vendors.
  • Create comprehensive, enterprise-wide visibility for the strategy, people, processes, technology and measurement that contribute to improved content lifecycle management.
  • Develop a deep understanding of content best practices, evolving content strategies and keyword optimization best practices, and train the editorial team and portfolio marketers on how best to optimize their content projects. 
  • Assess the long-term impact of ZS content on client perceptions and on our firm’s business development success


  • Bachelor's degree require, communcations focused preferred: MBA preferred;
  • Minimum 10 years of of B-to-B content experience, preferably with a blend of content strategy, content management, marketing and analytics experience;
  • 7+ years of proven experience successfully leading a content team, ideally in a global professional services environment
  • Newspaper reporting, publishing house editing or feature writing experience desirable 
  • Healthcare industry experience a plus
  • Proven experience leading change and building consensus in a highly matrixed organizational structure
  • Possess a unique ability to continuously assess priorities and motivate team members to focus on delivering highest-value work
  • Experience working in content and marketing technology tools and platforms. Examples include: Contently, Percolate, Adobe Experience Manager, etc.
  • Self-motivated and independent
  • Ability to travel up to 25% (less if located in Chicagoland area). Ability to flex schedule to meet early mornings, at times, to collaborate with India-based team members




ZS is a global consulting firm; fluency in English is required, additional fluency in at least one European or Asian language is desirable.
